Each week you will be able to review my Sunday night Elevate lesson notes. This weeks lesson is part 1 in a series called "The Beat of the Drum". Use these weekly notes for your own personal use as a devotion, reminder, or whatever.

THE BEAT OF THE DRUM

The shepherd walks right up to the gate and the sheep recognize his voice.
JOHN 10 1-5(PARTIAL) MESSAGE VERSION

Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear!
Matthew 13:9

Lesson Theme: You will not be successful in life unless you are listening to the right voice daily. (JESUS)

Background:

Drummer boys have been used for the most part in many historical wars. The purpose of a drummer boy in a war setting was not to provide entertainment or lift spirits but to provide direction for war battered soldiers who were disoriented and confused due to the stress of battle. When a soldier could hear the "BEAT OF THE DRUM", he knew which direction the battle was. The sound of the drum provided guidance, confidence and direction.

Daily Application:

Life is often like a battle in a war. There are moments everyday where you feel disoriented, stressed, and confused. It is extremely important to have a "drum beat" or "drummer boy" in our life to keep us focused on where that battle is or keep us focused on what's important. That drummer boy is really the "voice of God" in our every day life. Jesus would go into the lonely desert place often to get "instructions" or "wisdom" from his heavenly father. If Jesus did this, we should spend time "listening for the beat of the drummer/ the voice of God". Hear are some ways you can spend time listening this week:

1.) Focus on at least 1 praise/worship song and make every word personal. God will speak to you through music

2.) Make a list of everything you are confused by or need direction on. Now imagine hearing the voice of Jesus giving you answers to your questions. Cross out each item on your list as they are answered.

3.) Read John 10 this week!

Love you guys,

Pastor Ben
